The original Milwaukee Bulldog group held their first sanctioned match on June 14, 1964. Then in 1967 the Milwaukee Bulldog Club was incorporated by the State of Wisconsin. The first AKC licensed MBC specialty show was held on June 14, 1969. The judge was the renowned Detroit area Bulldog Breeder-Judge Dr. Edward Vardon. He awarded Best of Breed to Ch. Cherokee Morgan owned by Cody Sickle of New York. That same year, on August 9, 1969, Marie Andree of Indiana judged the BCA Division II Puppy Match hosted by the Milwaukee club.
In 1971 the Milwaukee Bulldog Club initiated a long-time relationship with the Waukesha Kennel Club. Every year since, the MBC has held their annual specialty show in conjunction with the Waukesha club's all-breed show the last weekend in July. In recent years the MBC has participated as part of the Combined Specialty Clubs of Greater Milwaukee with their specialties on Friday of that weekend. In
1982 the Burlington, WI Kennel Club joined the Waukesha Club weekend of
shows creating a circuit of four all-breed shows and the Friday
specialty shows referred to as "Wonderful Wisconsin Weekend."
In 2011 the club moved the show to an air conditioned, indoor facility and partnered with the Kettle Moraine Kennel Club. The date was moved to the first weekend in July. This group of shows hosts 3 shows in total, with the specialty show kicking things off Friday night. As always, the MBC makes an effort to support Bulldog breeder-judges for all
shows. With few exceptions, all shows have drawn
major entries in the past.
The
annual MBC Puppy Match and Picnic has become a major part of the July
specialty weekend. Through the years this event has been held at the
home of various members: Harold and Adair Templin, Terry and Jean
Bartels and more recently Ray Knudson and Karl Foerster. It is not
uncommon for 200 people to show up on the July Saturday afternoon for
the picnic and to watch 25-50 puppies parading around the ring.
